Entertaining and educational is how I would describe Bob’s Train Restaurant.
The address is 2211 Fruitville Road but finding the restored 1960 Circus Pullman train car was an adventure.
We finally located it on an unused railroad spur off of 3rd street in a former lumber yard and thought it was closed as we drove past a vacant guardhouse into a parking lot with a few cars. A few minutes later Bob Horne along with his daughter Brittany opened the train door and welcomed us into the cozy restaurant.
There were about half a dozen people dining and it seemed the MOOSE burger was a favorite. Bob’s creation of the Mozzarella, Onion,Olive, Special house made horseradish sauce, and Extras (tomato and lettuce) on a grilled burger sounded delicious to me so I ordered one with the accompanying house made potato chips and pickle. It was delicious, but the highlight was the wealth of knowledge and photographs Bob shared with us about the history of the train and the Ringling Circus in Sarasota.
The videos were fascinating to watch as we dined and Bob’s stories were never-ending.
