A trip to Winter Park from Tampa involved a train ride at one time, now the AmTrak schedule gets in too late and leaves too early to fully enjoy the weekend, so now we drive. One of the perks of riding the train is the legendary Park Plaza Hotel sits across the street from the train station. The Park Plaza holds so many memories for us and we will never forget the time Willem Defoe was also staying there. But it was time to move on so this trip we decided to stay at the newest hotel, The Alfond Inn. It’s also the only other hotel just a short stroll to Park Avenue, a street filled with shopping and dining choices.
The Winter Park Farmer’s Market at the old train station depot is lively every Saturday from 7 to 11 am. Just down the road is the Hannibal Square Historic District with more restaurants to choose from, but my favorite of the trip was The Coop, we ran by it while jogging Saturday morning. The following photos were taken on Sunday morning when they were closed, otherwise the view would have been obscured by the long line outside the building.
We stopped by The Ravenous Pig on Orange Avenue for dinner on our way into town. The place has been open for a while but you’ll almost certainly need a reservation. Jack had steak and said the fries, served with it, were the best he had ever had. The tiny little trio of desserts were adorable, but I also ordered three tiny scoops of different flavored ice cream to go along with it. A little much but I wanted to taste some of everything. It was hard to pick a favorite. The martini was perfect.
